Rangers send RHP Jon Edwards to San Diego to complete deal for OF Will Venable

Edwards was on option at Triple-A Round Rock

The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has sent right-handed pitcher Jon Edwards to the San Diego Padres to complete the trade in which the club acquired outfielder Will Venable on August 18. The Rangers also sent catcher/outfielder Marcus Greene to the Padres as part of that trade.

Edwards, 27, has spent most of the season at Triple-A Round Rock with a 2-1 record, 1.42 ERA, and 20 saves in 32 overall appearances. The right-hander has a 6.00 ERA (4 ER/6.0 IP) in 11 games over three stints (April 11-12; May 27-June 23; July 29-31) with the Rangers in 2015. Edwards made his major league debut with Texas in 2014, posting a 4.32 ERA in 9 appearances.

With today's move, the Rangers' major league roster is at 39 players.
