Seattle Mariners fans can celebrate pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma's no-hitter with a limited edition T-shirt and specially priced tickets for Monday, August 24, Kuma's next scheduled start at Safeco Field.
Iwakuma threw the fifth no-hitter in Mariners history on August 12 against the Baltimore Orioles. He also became the second Japanese-born pitcher with a Major League Baseball no-hitter, joining Hideo Nomo who had two in his career (1996, 2001).
In honor of Kuma's gem, fans can get select Main Level seats for Monday's game against the Oakland Athletics for $18 (Iwakuma wears #18). In addition, the first 20,000 fans through the gates will receive a commemorative T-shirt designed by Gary Chen, a fan and artist who lives in Taiwan.
Chen posted his artwork on Instagram the day after the no-hitter. The image was shared on the Seattle Mariners official Instagram account. That post began a conversation with Chen, via social media, about creating a commemorative T-shirt from his artwork. After a few tweaks to the original concept, the design was finalized.
The T-shirts are only available at the gates of Safeco Field on Monday. They will not be sold online or in stores.
Specially priced tickets for Monday's game are available beginning today at Mariners.com, as well as the Safeco Field ticket windows, Mariners Team Stores, Ticketmaster Ticket Outlets and by phone at 1-888-SEA-HITS (732-4487). Tickets will be available at the special price right up until game time.
