News & Notes About the A's Upcoming Homestand

OAKLAND - The A's return home for a five-game homestand against the Los Angeles Dodgers and Tampa Bay Rays beginning Tuesday, Aug. 18, at the O.co Coliseum.

The homestand opens with a two-game series against the Dodgers, highlighted by the return of legendary A's slugger Mark McGwire, who now serves as the Dodgers hitting coach. The A's will honor "Big Mac" with Mark McGwire Bobblehead Night driven by Chevrolet at Tuesday's series opener. Beginning Friday, the A's play host to Tampa Bay for a three-game weekend series that features STAR WARS™ Fireworks Night presented by Chevron on Saturday, Aug. 22.

Promotions & Special Events

STAR WARS™ Fireworks Night presented by Chevron: The A's fifth fireworks show of the season will feature STAR WARS™-themed music and visits from your favorite characters from the classic film series. Stay after the game against the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday, Aug. 22, to watch the fireworks from the outfield grass (on-field capacity is limited).

Mark McGwire Bobblehead Night, driven by Chevrolet: On Tuesday, Aug. 18, 15,000 fans will receive a Mark McGwire Bobblehead, driven by Chevrolet, which pays tribute to the A's all-time home run leader. "Big Mac" will be on hand that night and will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.

Fan Appreciation Weekend: During the three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays from Aug. 21-23, the A's will celebrate their fans with Fan Appreciation Weekend. Fans will be randomly selected to win great prizes throughout the weekend, which features STAR WARS™ Fireworks Night, presented by Chevron, on Saturday. 

Community Relations

Chevron STEM Zone: The A's will host the Chevron STEM Zone at the A's vs. Rays game on Saturday, Aug. 22. Chevron created the STEM Zone to help deepen kids' interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics outside the classroom by showing its applications in the real world. The fun and hands-on baseball-related learning exhibits will be located behind Sections 201 and 217 throughout Saturday's game

Breast Cancer Awareness Day Fundraising Table: At each game throughout the homestand, fans will have the opportunity to purchase Breast Cancer Awareness Day pins, caps and necklaces with proceeds benefitting breast cancer education, research and awareness. Also, once again the A's will be raffling off a custom-made autographed quilt; raffle tickets for the quilt are $5 each. The fundraising table will be set up behind section 120.

A's Community Fund Silent Auctions: Every Saturday and Sunday home game (and other select games), the A's Community Fund hosts a silent auction featuring signed and unsigned A's memorabilia as well as game-used items. The silent auctions are located in the A's fan center behind section 120 and end with the last out in the bottom of the 5th inning.

Little A's: On Sunday, Aug. 23, as part of the Little A's program, deserving youth and their chaperones of non-profit organizations will have the opportunity to attend an A's game free of charge. In addition to a game ticket, each child receives a Bank of America souvenir and child-admission pass to the Oakland Zoo. The Little A's program is presented by Bank of America and supported by the Oakland Zoo and Clorox.

Take the Field with the A's: The Take the Field with the A's program gives youth baseball and softball teams the chance to live out their Major League dreams. On Sundays throughout the season, youth players from a local you baseball or softball team will join Oakland A's players on the field during the National Anthem. Each participant receives an autographed baseball and t-shirt, courtesy of Wells Fargo.

Food Bank Wednesdays: During select Wednesday home games in August and September, A's fans can donate five cans of food or $5 to the Alameda County Community Food Bank at Gates C, D, and the BART Plaza. Each fan that contributes receives a 2-for-1 plaza level ticket voucher for a future A's game.

UMPS Care: Prior to the game on Saturday, Aug. 22, participants in the UMPS Care program will receive great seats to the game, a goody bag of "all things baseball," and the unique opportunity to step onto the field for a photo opportunity with the umpiring crew from that night's game.
