Minneapolis, Minn. - The Texas Rangers announced this morning that the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Chi Chi Gonzalez from Triple-A Round Rock and optioned right-handed pitcher Nick Martinez to Round Rock.
Gonzalez, 23, is scheduled to make his 8th career major league start in today's series finale against the Twins in Minneapolis. He went 2-4 with a 3.74 ERA (18 ER/43.1 IP) in 7 games/starts during his first major league action with the Rangers from May 30-July 3. His last start with Texas was on July 3 vs. Los Angeles-AL. He has spent the balance of the season with Round Rock, going 5-7 with a 4.09 ERA (32 ER/70.1 IP) in 13 games/starts, including a 2-2 record and 4.00 ERA (12 ER/27.0 IP) in 5 starts since being optioned on July 4. Gonzalez pitched the Rangers' lone complete game shutout of the season on June 5 at Kansas City, part of a career-opening span in which he had a 0.90 ERA over his first 4 big league starts.
Martinez has gone 7-7 with a 4.09 ERA (55 ER/121.0 IP) in 21 games/starts for the Rangers this season. He took the loss in a start last night against the Twins.
The Rangers still have a full 40-man roster.
