KANSAS CITY, MO (August 12, 2015) - The Kansas City Royals are encouraging fans to arrive early at Kauffman Stadium for Mike Sweeney's Royals Hall of Fame induction ceremony this Saturday. The 26th member of the Royals Hall of Fame will be inducted prior to the 6:10 p.m. game vs. the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Gates to Kauffman Stadium open at 4:30 p.m., and the ballclub is inviting fans to be in their seats by 5 p.m. The on-field ceremony will begin shortly thereafter.
A five-time American League All-Star during his Royals career from 1995-2007, Sweeney holds the single-season club record with 144 RBI in 2000 and the second-best batting average at .340 in 2002. He ranks in the top six all-time in Royals history in 17 offensive categories, including second in average (.299) and home runs (197). Sweeney represented the Royals as an American League All-Star for four straight seasons from 2000-2003 and again in 2005. He joins George Brett (13), Amos Otis (5) and Frank White (5) as the only players in club history to make five or more All-Star appearances. Sweeney was a three-time Les Milgram Royals Player of the Year (2000, 2002 and 2005) and 1999 Joe Burke Special Achievement Award winner.
Please note, Mike Sweeney Royals Hall of Fame Bobblehead Day is scheduled for Sunday, September 6 when the Royals host the Chicago White Sox at 1:10 p.m. The first 10,000 fans that afternoon will receive the Sweeney bobblehead, which continues the Royals Hall of Fame Bobblehead series.
