DETROIT- Detroit Tigers Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Al Avila announced today the following front office appointments: Dave Littlefield as Vice President, Player Development, Dick Egan as Special Assistant to the Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager and Scott Reid as Senior Advisor to the Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager.
Additionally, Scott Pleis, Director of Amateur Scouting, Tom Moore, Director, International Operations, Miguel Garcia, Director, Latin American Scouting and Dan Lunetta, Director, Minor League Operations, will all continue their current roles within the organization.
"We've identified the key personnel that we believe gives us the best complement of experience," said Al Avila, Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager. "These gentlemen have a high level of expertise that is invaluable in today's game of evaluating players."
Littlefield is in his first season in the Tigers organization and has spent more than 26 seasons within front offices of major league clubs. Before joining the Tigers on October 20, 2014 as a major league scout, Littlefield served a seven-season stint as a major league scout for the Chicago Cubs. Prior to joining the Cubs in 2007, Littlefield spent seven seasons as the general manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Dave Owen, the Club's Director of Player Development, will report to Littlefield. Owen is in his fourth year with the Tigers in his current role.
Egan is in his 55th season in professional baseball and his 14th with the Tigers organization after joining the club as a major league scout on January 24, 2002. Egan was named special assistant to the general manager on October 18, 2007. Prior to joining the Tigers, Egan spent the previous 10 seasons with the Florida Marlins, serving as a professional scout (1999-2001), crosschecker (1996-98) and West Coast supervisor (1992-95).
Reid is currently in his 14th season with the Tigers. Reid originally joined the organization as the vice president/special assistant to the general manager on January 15, 2002. Prior to coming to Detroit, Reid spent 10 seasons with the Florida Marlins. He joined the Marlins in 1992 as a major league scout, was named assistant to the general manager in December, 1999 and was promoted to vice president/assistant to the general manager in March, 2000.
