KANSAS CITY, MO (August 7, 2015) -- The Kansas City Royals are proud to announce a special recognition ceremony for the "Franchise Four" when the Club hosts the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday, September 1. The Royals Franchise Four are Baseball Hall of Famer George Brett and Royals Hall of Famers Dan Quisenberry, Bret Saberhagen and Frank White.
The Franchise Four winners were announced before the 2015 All-Star Game in Cincinnati following a month-long voting period on mlb.com.
Before the Royals-Tigers game, the club will hold a pregame ceremony with Brett, Saberhagen, White and Janie Quisenberry Stone, widow of Dan Quisenberry, who will appear in honor of her late husband. In addition, the first 10,000 fans who enter the gates will receive a Franchise Four t-shirt as a part of the T-Shirt Tuesday promotion series.
The campaign allowed fans to vote for the players they felt made the most impact and best represented the history of each major league franchise and other categories. Fans were given eight choices on a ballot that represented the lineage of each category, along with an additional write-in option. The eight players were selected based on the recommendations of a blue-ribbon panel. The four additional Royals considered were Alex Gordon, Hal McRae, Willie Wilson and Amos Otis.
