Pedroia, Betts ramping up, progressing

NEW YORK -- Dustin Pedroia should resume baseball activities by the time the Red Sox get to Detroit this weekend, as he continues to make progress with the ailing left hamstring that has forced him to the disabled list twice this season.

Center fielder Mookie Betts, who sustained a concussion on July 29, is also taking steps forward.

Betts didn't accompany the Red Sox to New York, but will be in Detroit.

"He had a good day Sunday," said Red Sox manager John Farrell. "Another good day [Monday] with the increase of physical activity. There's no reproducing of the concussion symptoms right now."
