Jose Abreu and Adam Eaton named the American League Co-Players of the Week

First baseman Jose Abreu and outfielder Adam Eaton of the Chicago White Sox have been named the American League Co-Players of the Week for the period ending August 2nd. The announcement was made earlier today on MLB Network.

Abreu batted .400 (10-for-25) with seven runs scored, three doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI, while Eaton hit .517 (15- for-29) with 10 runs scored, three doubles, one triple, a home run, four RBI and three stolen bases. This marks Eaton's first career weekly honor and Abreu's second, last winning with the White Sox on April 27, 2014. Among AL leaders, Jose finished the week third in RBI and slugging percentage (.880), tied for fourth in on-base percentage (.500), tied for fifth in total bases (22), tied for sixth in home runs and tied for eighth in batting average. Adam completed the period first in batting average, hits, on-base percentage (.600) and runs, tied for second in stolen bases, fourth in total bases (23) and seventh in slugging percentage (.793).

Entering play today, Abreu is enjoying a 13-game hitting streak, dating back to July 21st. During this recent hot stretch, the 2014 AL Rookie of the Year Award winner is batting .367 (18-for-49) with 10 runs scored, three doubles, four home runs and 16 RBI. It is already the sixth streak of 10-or-more hits in his two-year career. Within his streak, Abreu, who made the 2014 AL All-Star team in his rookie season, delivered an RBI in a career-high six consecutive games from July 27th - August 1st. In the midst of his own seasonhigh hitting streak, Eaton has recorded a hit in 11 straight games, dating back to July 22nd. During this time, the Springfield, Ohio native is batting .455 (20-for-44) with 14 runs scored, four doubles, a triple, two home runs, five RBI and five stolen bases, while recording multi-hit games in each of his last five outings. Additionally, Eaton has scored a run in a career-high 10 straight games, the most by a White Sox player since Jim Thome scored in a franchise-record 17 straight games to open the 2006 season. Led by Abreu and Eaton, the White Sox have won seven of their last 10 and now sit just 3.5 games back of the Minnesota Twins for the second AL Wild Card.
