Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced this morning that the club has placed right-handed pitcher Tanner Scheppers on the 15-day disabled list with left knee inflammation and recalled right-handed pitcher Phil Klein (#43) from Triple-A Round Rock.
Scheppers has gone 4-1 with a 5.66 ERA over 38 relief appearances for the Rangers this season. This is his second stint on the disabled list this year, as he also opened the season on the disabled list with a right ankle sprain. He was also optioned to Triple-A Round Rock from April 27-May 16.
Klein will be in his fourth stint with Texas this season, the others Opening Day-April 14, May 20-27, and July 27-28. He appeared in back-to-back games for the Rangers on Monday and Tuesday against the New York Yankees (5.0 IP, 1 R-0 ER) before he was optioned to Round Rock on Wednesday. He has not appeared for the Express since his most recent option. Over 10 games/2 starts with Texas for the year, he has gone 1-0 with a 5.82 ERA (11 ER/17.0 IP). He has spent the balance of the season at Round Rock, going 1-0 with a 0.91 ERA (3 ER/29.2 IP) in 12 games/4 starts. Triple-A opponents have batted .139 (14-101) with 14 walks and 25 strikeouts.
