Blue Jays Acquire Tulowitzki

The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have acquired SS TROY TULOWITZKI and RHP LaTROY HAWKINS from Colorado in exchange for SS JOSE REYES, RHP JEFF HOFFMAN, RHP MIGUEL CASTRO & RHP JESUS TINOCO.

TULOWITZKI, 30, has spent all 10 of his Major League seasons with Colorado after being drafted 7th overall in 2005. The Santa Clara, California native has been an NL All-Star on five occasions, including each of the last three seasons and is currently hitting .300 with 19 doubles, 12 home runs and 53 RBI. In addition to earning Silver Slugger and Gold Glove awards in 2010 & 2011, the 6-3, 215 lb. right-handed hitter has finished in the top 25 in MVP voting on six occasions and the top 10 in three seasons. A career .299/.371/.513 hitter, Tulowitzki ranks 2nd to only Alex Rodriguez among active shortstops with his .886 career OPS.

HAWKINS, 42, is in his 21st season at the Major League level and is the oldest active player in baseball. The Gary, Indiana native was a 7th round selection of the Twins in 1991 and made his debut in 1995. The Blue Jays will mark the right-handers 11th club in his career in which he has posted a 74-94 record with a 4.32 in 1,024 games, the 11th most games played in baseball history. Hawkins has posted an ERA above 4.00 in just one of his last seven seasons and currently owns a 2-1 record with a 3.63 ERA in 24 games in 2015.

Four-time All-Star JOSE REYES heads to Colorado after two plus seasons in Toronto where he posted a .289 average with 23 home runs and 61 stolen bases. He is joined by JEFF HOFFMAN, the 9th overall selection in 2014, MIGUEL CASTRO, 0-2 with a 4.38 ERA and four saves in his debut season and JESUS TINOCO, at 20 years old is 2-6 with a 3.54 ERA for Lansing in the Midwest League (A).
