Chicago White Sox Charities will honor first baseman Jose Abreu with a commemorative bobblehead. The collectible bobbleheads are available for purchase online today and will be available for purchase at White Sox home games beginning Friday, July 17 with proceeds benefiting Chicago White Sox Charities and programs supported by Abreu's Amigos - a community outreach program created by Abreu to support children with special needs.
The bobblehead depicts the Cuban slugger after his powerful swing, with both the base of the statue and commemorative box featuring impressive statistics that earned him the 2014 Rookie of the Year. With only 3,500 available, each bobblehead is accompanied by a limited edition certificate with specific numbering.
The bobblehead is available for $35 each online at whitesox.com/Abreubobble and will be available at U.S. Cellular Field in Sections 100, 135 and 535. There will be a $10 shipping and handling fee for online purchases.
"Jose has been a strong supporter of White Sox Charities and has a passion for giving back to the community, including starting his own program - Abreu's Amigos," said Christine O'Reilly, executive director of Chicago White Sox Charities. "This bobblehead allows fans to commemorate his powerful presence both on and off the field, while also giving back to a great cause."
Proceeds from the bobbleheads will benefit White Sox Charities and programs supported by Abreu's Amigos. Abreu's Amigos is a community program started by Abreu to follow his passion for supporting children with special needs. Launched in June 2015 at the Easter Seals Metropolitan Chicago (ESMC) Therapeutic School and Center for Autism Research, Abreu's Amigos focuses on providing regular opportunities for students with special needs to develop social skills in a recreational setting through field trips to the ballpark.
