Donaldson exits Saturday's win with flu-like symptoms

KANSAS CITY -- All-Star third baseman Josh Donaldson left Saturday's 6-2 win over the Royals in the sixth inning as a precautionary measure, due to flu-like symptoms.

Donaldson was 0-for-3 against right-hander Chris Young before his departure. Donaldson has 21 homers and is scheduled to take part in the Gillette Home Run Derby presented by Head and Shoulders on Monday.

Danny Valencia replaced Donaldson at third base as the Royals came to bat in the sixth inning. Valencia wound up hitting a three-run homer in the ninth off Brandon Finnegan to break the game open.

"[Donaldson] has been sick, and then it was a tough day with the heat," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. "He was a little dehydrated."
