Decker to represent PCL in Triple-A Home Run Derby

Bill Center, longtime sportswriter for U-T San Diego, is an employee of the Padres.

Cody Decker will be on the Pacific Coast League team competing in the 2015 Triple-A All-Star Home Run Derby July 13 in Omaha, Neb.

Decker had already been selected to be the PCL designated hitter in the Triple-A All-Star Game between players from the PCL and International leagues on July 15 in Omaha.

Decker is tied for fourth in the PCL this season with 15 homers. He is also tied for seventh with 53 RBIs in 70 games. Decker is hitting .271 with a .352 on-base percentage and a .552 slugging percentage. He ranks seventh in the PCL in slugging percentage and eighth in OPS (.904)

The 28-year-old Decker was the 22nd-round pick of the Padres in the 2009 draft (out of UCLA). His 148 career minor league homers over seven seasons are the most by a minor league player in Padres history.

There was one move in the Padres' system Tuesday with right-handed relief pitcher Aaron Cressley being promoted from short-season Single-A Tri-City to low Single-A Fort Wayne.
