Two-time All-Star Freddie Freeman could not crack the top five at his position despite having the third-most doubles (19), home runs (12) and RBIs (40) out of all qualified NL first basemen entering Tuesday. Freeman, a consistent threat at the plate over the last six weeks, was batting .318 with a .392 on-base percentage in his last 39 games.
Catcher A.J. Pierzynski, hitting .279 through 40 games, has been absent from the NL leaderboard for two weeks after being the only Braves player to make an appearance there last month.
"He's a veteran guy. Just him showing up is good enough," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said of Pierzynski. "He does his work, he does his homework in there. Guys like throwing to him. [His presence] was really important."
