Turner, 21, was the Padres' first-round pick (13th overall) in the 2014 Draft. Under old baseball rules -- which have since been changed because of his trade -- he couldn't officially be traded until a year after he was drafted.
Until Sunday, Turner was unofficially part of the three-way trade with Tampa Bay and the Washington Nationals that brought Myers, catcher Ryan Hanigan, right-handed pitcher Gerardo Reyes and left-handed pitcher Jose Castillo to the Padres. Hanigan was then traded to the Boston Red Sox for third baseman Will Middlebrooks.
The Padres sent catcher Rene Rivera, infielder Jake Bauers and right-handed pitcher Burch Smith to Tampa Bay and right-handed pitcher Joe Ross and Turner to the Nationals.
Turner, a product of North Carolina State, was hitting .322 with 13 doubles, five homers, 11 steals, 35 RBIs and 31 runs for Double-A San Antonio. Turner spent time with the Padres this spring in the Major League camp.
To replace Turner at San Antonio, the Padres are promoting Jose Rondon from Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore.
Rondon, 21, was acquired by the Padres last July as part of the trade that sent right-handed closer Huston Street to the Angels. A native of Venezuela, Rondon was hitting .300 with three homers, 22 RBIs, 50 runs and 17 steals for the Storm.
He was named the California League Rookie of the Year last season and was a member of the league's postseason All-Star team while hitting .310 between the Angels and Padres affiliates.
