Gennett getting called back up by Brewers

MILWAUKEE -- Scooter Gennett's three-hit, four-RBI performance for Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday will be his last Minor League game for a while.

The second baseman has been promoted back to the Brewers and will rejoin the team for the start of a four-game series against the Nationals on Thursday.

The Brewers optioned reliever David Goforth back to Colorado Springs to make room for Gennett. Goforth had not pitched since May 31, and the Brewers bullpen will be bolstered Thursday by the return of left-hander Will Smith from a six-game suspension.

Gennett batted .307 with two home runs and 11 RBIs in 17 games with Colorado Springs following a May 18 demotion. He was 23-for-75 at Triple-A after going 10-for-65 (.154) in the big leagues with the Brewers, missing time in April and May after suffering a laceration on his left hand.
