Round 6: 1B Edwin Rios, Florida International
Rios hit 18 homers this year.
The MLB.com preseason scouting report: The left-handed-hitting Rios has had an amazing three-year campaign at FIU, improving each season. He earned Second Team Freshman All-American honors in 2013 after leading the Panthers with a .332 average, 52 RBIs and 26 walks. Rios also recorded 24 multihit games and 15 multi-RBI games, leading the team in both categories. A durable player in his sophomore season, he started all 56 games, hitting .296 with two home runs and 38 RBIs, including tying for the team lead in doubles with 14.
Round 7: RHP Andrew Sopko, Gonzaga University
Scouting director Billy Gasparino said Sopko has a three-pitch mix with deception and fastball command to both sides of the plate, projecting him as a back-end starter.
"He's trending up," Gasparino said.
The MLB.com preseason scouting report: A 6-foot-2 right-hander, Sopko came to Gonzaga from Missoula, Mont., spurning the Padres, who selected him in the 14th round of the 2012 Draft out of Loyola Sacred Heart High School. The junior completed his second full season as a starter in 2015, going 7-5 with a 3.55 ERA, 78 strikeouts and 29 walks over 88 2/3 innings, spanning 14 outings. Sopko went at least six innings while allowing two runs or fewer seven times and was an All-West Coast Conference honorable mention.
Round 8: RHP Tommy Bergjans, Haverford College
Bergjans is from the alma mater of Dodgers senior vice president of baseball operations Josh Byrnes. Bergjans is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound senior and California native out of Loyola High School. The economics major is a three-time Division III All-American and finished the 2015 season as the NCAA strikeout leader.
"We had extra insight into his makeup because of Josh," Gasparino said. "He sort of burst on the scene late with a 93 fastball to go with a plus-plus curveball he throws for strikeouts, and he has a feel for a change."
Round 9: RHP Kevin Brown, California State University, Dominguez Hills
Brown is no relation to former Dodgers pitcher Kevin Brown. This one is a senior who transferred from Moorpark College. He is 6-foot-3, 210 pounds.
Gasparino said Brown recovered after missing last year with arthroscopic shoulder surgery and has a chance to start.
Round 10: OF Logan Landon, Texas Pan American
Landon is a former pitcher coming off his first year as an outfielder since high school. The right-handed hitter batted .382 and is 6-foot-2, 180 pounds.
Gasparino said Landon has a "loose, twitchy, athletic" body that took to hitting, making him an underscouted player with "a lot of upside."
