A redshirt sophomore outfielder at the University of North Florida, Dewees' 2014 season was shortened to 12 games because of a wrist injury. The left-handed hitter made up for that this season as he helped the Ospreys to a 45-16 record and Atlantic Sun regular-season championship.

Named the conference Player of the Year, Dewees finished the season as the Division I leader in hits (106), runs (88), total bases (188) and slugging percentage (.749). He also was tied for third in home runs with 18, one behind the nation's leader, Arkansas' Andrew Benintendi (selected No. 7 by the Red Sox), and tied for second in batting average.
Dewees, 21, spent time last summer in the Cape Cod League, which also helped Happ. In 41 games there, Dewees batted .340 with 20 RBIs.
He was ranked No. 35 by MLB.com among the Top 200 Draft prospects.
