"We jumped out fairly early getting the homer from Danny. The Cubs got within one, but we got a couple late," Nationals manager Matt Williams said. "Nice job throughout the lineup tonight. Guys off the bench were good. Good win for us. We needed that one."
Espinosa thought he was going back on the bench with the return of Anthony Rendon, but that lasted only one inning Thursday, when Yunel Escobar injured his right wrist.
"It's not like I sat for two weeks and jumped back in there," Espinosa said. "I just kept playing. I stayed with my approach on what I wanted to do. I go out there and battle."
