Mariners recall catcher Jesus Sucre

Outfielder Justin Ruggiano designated for assignment

SEATTLE, Wash. - Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik announced today the club has recalled catcher Jesus Sucre from AAA Tacoma and designated for assignment outfielder Justin Ruggiano.

Sucre, 27, began the season with Seattle, appearing in 6 games, all starts and batting .067 (1x15) with 1 run scored. After being optioned to AAA Tacoma post-game on May 19, he appeared in 6 games and hit .261 (4x23) with 4 runs scored and 2 RBI.

Ruggiano, 33, hit .214 (15x70) with 8 runs, 4 doubles, 2 home runs and 3 RBI in 36 games with Seattle this season. He was acquired from the Chicago Cubs on Dec. 17, 2014 in exchange for left-hander Matt Brazis. In parts of 7 Major League seasons with Tampa Bay, Miami, Chicago (NL) and Seattle, he has hit .255 (306x1201) with 146 runs, 66 doubles, 3 triples, 45 home runs and 140 RBI in 434 games.
