Hinch named to All-Star coaching staff

Will be part of Ned Yost's AL staff for 2015 Midsummer Classic

Major League Baseball announced today that American League All-Star Manager Ned Yost has named Astros manager A.J. Hinch and Seattle Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon to his All-Star coaching staff.

Each year, the AL and NL All-Star managers select two managers to join their own staffs as part of the Midsummer Classic's coaching staffs. NL All-Star manager Bruce Bochy selected Dodgers manager Don Mattingly  and Reds manager Bryan Price to join his staff. The 2015 MLB All-Star Game will be hosted by the Reds at Great American Ball Park on July 14.

This will be the first All-Star coaching assignment for Hinch, who is the first Astros manager to be named to an All-Star staff since Jimy Williams in 2004. That All-Star Game was hosted by the Astros at Minute Maid Park. In 2006, Astros manager Phil Garner served as the manager of the NL All-Star squad and was joined by his coaching staff for the game.

In his first season at the helm, Hinch has led the Astros to an AL-best 34-20 mark thus far, which is the best record in franchise history after 54 games. The Astros have been in first place in the AL Western Division since April 19.
