Mariners claim Woods from Halos

A day after signing free agent Jarrod Washburn to a four-year deal, the Mariners picked up another left-hander who last pitched for the Angels, claiming Jake Woods off waivers on Tuesday.

Woods, 24, began the 2005 season with the Angels, posting a 1-1 record and 4.55 ERA in 28 games as a reliever. He made his Major League debut April 8 vs. Kansas City and earned his first win April 23 vs. Oakland.

Woods was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on July 11 and appeared in 15 games with the Stingers, finishing 3-1 with a 5.89 ERA in 15 games (five starts).

Woods tops out at about 89-90 mph with his fastball and has a big curveball.
