Luetge recalled so Beimel can attend graduation

The Mariners called up left-hander Lucas Luetge from Triple-A Tacoma before Friday's game against the Indians at Safeco Field and placed veteran lefty Joe Beimel on the restricted list so he could attend his son's high school graduation.

Luetge will be in uniform Friday night in Seattle as the Mariners continue to work with a six-man bullpen.

The 28-year-old appeared in one game for the Mariners this season, allowing two walks while striking out two over 2 1/3 scoreless innings on April 25. It was a short stay for Luetge, as he was recalled April 24 and sent back after his scoreless appearance the next day.

Luetge went 0-1 with two saves and a 5.06 ERA in 21 1/3 innings over 14 relief appearances for Tacoma this season. He appeared in 12 games over five stints with the Mariners a year ago, with eight of those appearances coming after rosters expanded in September.

Over parts of four big league seasons with Seattle, Luetge has gone 3-5 with two saves and a 4.35 ERA in 111 games.

Beimel earned his first save since 2009 in a 7-6 win in 10 innings over the Rays on Tuesday.
