Yankees need push in AL All-Star balloting

NEW YORK -- Jacoby Ellsbury's .412 on-base percentage is a big reason why the Yankees have scored more first-inning runs than any other team in baseball.

Fans have noticed

Ellsbury is the top Yankee in voting for the 86th All-Star Game to be played on Tuesday, July 14 at Great American Ball Park, according to the 2015 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot totals released on Tuesday. Ellsbury's 546,188 votes rank seventh among American League outfielders.

Ellsbury went on the disabled list last week with a right knee sprain, and Yankees manager Joe Girardi said on Tuesday that his center fielder has yet to resume any baseball activities. While the Yankees haven't offered an estimate of how much time Ellsbury will miss, Girardi said he still hopes that it won't be too long.

"Hopefully, we'd have him within a month," Girardi said. "I can't tell you we will."

Besides Ellsbury, other Yankees listed in the first voting update were first baseman Mark Teixeira (third with 342,788 votes), designated hitter Alex Rodriguez (third with 351,567), catcher Brian McCann (fourth with 342,826), and outfielders Brett Gardner (12th with 303,171) and Carlos Beltran (13th with 288,674).
