Fernandez is tracking toward pitching in extended spring games around the second week of June. But no specific day has been set. Once the 22-year-old starts pitching in game situations, the Marlins will get a better idea of when he will be reinstated.
It appears the earliest Fernandez could be reinstated would be around July 1. The team has a loose window for a return, waiting to see how his arm responds to game situations.
Fernandez underwent Tommy John surgery on May 16, 2014. Recommended recovery is around 14 months.
The Marlins initially had set a window of around June 15 to the All-Star break. But it's now appearing that window could be July 1 to the break.
