Cleveland, OH-The Cleveland Indians will donate new catchers' gear to the Garfield Heights Baseball League on Thursday night, after the league was a victim of theft from its storage facility last week.
The Indians, thanks in part to Louisville Slugger, will present the new gear to the league - including players and coaches - on Thursday night. At least one Indians player, and Slider, will be on hand to present the donation at Donovan Park at 6PM Thursday. (The park is located on Warner Road in Garfield Heights, between Garfield Boulevard and Canal Road.)
"One of our organization's guiding commitments is to our community, and we're proud to assist in the league's time of need," said Rebecca Kodysh, the club's Executive Director of Community Impact.
Each of five divisions - Pee Wee, Minor, Major, Colt and Pony - will get new catchers' gear. The teams have been practicing, but the league was in danger of not being able to begin without the stolen gear being replaced.
