Now Commenting On:

Bad end to a great year

Tough end to a great year

Braves rookie right fielder Jeff Francoeur provided daily commentary to MLB.com throughout his team's postseason run. Francoeur breaks down his team's epic 18-inning, season-ending loss in Game 4.

Unless we won the World Series, it was going to be difficult letting go of this season. But to know just how close we came to sending the National League Division Series back to Atlanta makes Sunday's 18-inning loss to the Astros that much more difficult.

We obviously thought we had them most of the game, and we had complete confidence that Farnsworth was going to go in there and hold that five-run lead. He didn't. But all of us in here know we wouldn't be where we were without him this year. He was just awesome.

As we were coming off the field after Chris Burke's game-winning homer, I think it immediately hit me that the season is over. We've worked so hard all year and now we'll just have to come back next year and do everything we can to advance even further in the postseason.

We did exactly what we wanted to do today and got a great effort from Tim Hudson. He really shut them down. After Farnsworth allowed Brad Ausmus to tie it in the ninth with his solo homer, our bullpen was really good.

Chris Reitsma, Jim Brower and John Thomson all threw great, and Joey Devine did, too. It was just a matter of time before somebody put a ball up in the air that went over the wall. Unfortunately for Joey, it was Chris Burke who did it to him.

We had plenty of chances in extra innings, but could never come up with the big hit. Roger Clemens was really impressive on short rest today. He really shut us down there at the end.

This really was a great season with all of us rookies getting a chance to experience the postseason and prove ourselves in the Majors. Everybody just worked together and played hard together. I'm looking forward to having the opportunity to do it again next year.

Jeff Francoeur's diary appears as told to Mark Bowman, a reporter for MLB.com. This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs.
