Bousfield, Perez lead Lake Elsinore to win

Torres' 12-game hitting streak ends

Center fielder Auston Bousfield capped a 3-for-5 game with a walk-off single in the bottom of the 11th Tuesday to give high Class A Lake Elsinore (16-17) a 5-4 win over Inland Empire.

Bousfield, 21, the Padres' fifth-round pick in last June's Draft out of the University of Mississippi, raised his average to .311. He also drew a walk, stole three bases (giving him 12 on the season) and scored an earlier run.

Second baseman Fernando Perez, 21, from Otay Ranch High, was 2-for-5 (.256) and hit a three-run homer in the game. First baseman Marcus Davis (.254) was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Third baseman Gabriel Quintana was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.

Right-handed starter Zechariah Lemond (3.96 ERA), the third-round pick in the 2014 Draft, allowed four runs on nine hits and two walks with three strikeouts in six innings. Right-hander Eric Yardley (3.14 ERA) gave up a hit with three strikeouts in two scoreless innings. Left-hander Chris Nunn (1-0, 1.69 ERA) struck out one in a perfect 11th to get the win.

Inland Empire pitchers had 20 strikeouts in 10 innings before Bousfield delivered the walk-off single with no one out in the 11th.

Starting RHP James Needy (6.42 ERA), a product of Santana High, allowed one run on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts over five innings. RHP Cory Mazzoni (1.10 ERA) allowed the tying run on a walk with four strikeouts in two hitless innings. RHP Marcos Mateo (1.96 ERA) allowed a hit with three strikeouts in two scoreless innings. RHP Stephen Kohlscheen (1-1, 7.71 ERA) gave up a two-run homer to Reno's Danny Dorn, who had a game-winning hit against the Padres while with Arizona last week, before retiring a hitter in the 10th. SS Ramiro Pena (.304) was 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored. 1B Tommy Medica (.286) was 2-for-5 with a double and a RBI. CF-1B Jake Goebbert (.225) was 2-for-3 with two walks.

Class A Fort Wayne (10-20): Lake County 5, Tin Caps 2. LF Nick Torres was 0-for-4, ending his 12-game hitting streak. 1B Trae Santos hit his third home run. C Miguel Del Castillo was 2-for-3. SS Chase Jensen was 2-for-4. Starting RHP Chris Huffman (0-1, 2.75 ERA) allowed four runs (one earned) on four hits in four innings. RHP Bryan Verbitsky (4.15 ERA) allowed a hit and a walk with three strikeouts in two innings. RHP Wilson Santos (4.00 ERA) allowed a run on two hits and two walks with a strikeout in two innings. The TinCaps committed five errors, one apiece by every infielder and one by catcher Del Castillo.
