The Pittsburgh Pirates today acquired left-handed pitcher Jayson Aquino from the Toronto Blue Jays for cash considerations. Aquino has been optioned to Single-A Bradenton. The announcement was made by Pirates Executive Vice President, General Manager Neal Huntington.
Aquino, who was designated for assignment on May 5, went 2-2 with a 2.81 ERA (25.2ip/8er) in five starts this season with Single-A Dunedin of the Florida State League.
The 22-year-old Aquino was originally signed by Colorado as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2009. He entered the 2013 campaign rated as Colorado's ninth-best prospect according to Baseball America.
