Blum undergoes right elbow surgery

HOUSTON -- Infielder Geoff Blum underwent arthroscopic surgery at Texas Orthopedic Hospital on Wednesday morning to remove three loose bodies from his right elbow.

The surgery was successful and Blum is expected to miss two to four weeks. He will begin range of motion activities in three days.

Blum was placed on the 15-day disabled list last Sunday after he experienced swelling and discomfort in his elbow following Thursday's game against the Padres where he started at shortstop.

The Astros recalled outfielder Jason Bourgeois from Triple-A Round Rock to replace Blum, who is hitting .241 in 59 games this season including 31 starts. He is second in the Major Leagues with seven pinch-hit RBIs.

Infielders Angel Sanchez and Oswaldo Navarro are expected to split the time at shortstop while Blum is out.
