Ortiz gave Major League Baseball officials confirmation on Tuesday that he will participate in his first All-Star Derby since 2006.
After declining to be part of the festivities in 2007, Ortiz was out with a left wrist injury in '08 and didn't make the All-Star team last year.
This will be his fourth time in the Derby, and Ortiz has never won. However, he has enjoyed the experience.
"That's what I do for a living -- hit bombs," Ortiz said Monday. "It's fun to watch, but it's fun to be in, too."
Ortiz entered Tuesday's game with 17 homers and 54 RBIs on the season.
Teammates Adrian Beltre, Dustin Pedroia, Victor Martinez, Clay Buchholz and Jon Lester will join him in Anaheim as All-Stars.
Robinson Cano (Yankees), Miguel Cabrera (Tigers), Vernon Wells (Blue Jays), Corey Hart (Brewers) and Matt Holliday (Cardinals) also confirmed their participation in the Derby.
