The Texas Rangers Foundation today announced that just keep livin students at Dallas' Pinkston High School have emerged victorious in a month-long competition between area high schools.
Pinkston and the other high schools that participate in the Rangers Foundation just keep livin program, Sam Houston High School in Arlington and Eastern Hills High School in Fort Worth, competed in the contest that tallied points for attendance, community service hours, and race participation at the Dallas Rock 'N' Roll Half-Marathon on March 22.
The competition culminated with a cooking competition to prepare a healthy meal on Wednesday in Fort Worth where the judges included Chef Rudy Poindexter.
For winning the competition, 20 students and five teachers from Pinkston's just keep livin program will travel to Los Angeles, June 17-19. The trip is presented by Cholula Hot Sauce, the Official Hot Sauce of the Texas Rangers and the only hot sauce found at Globe Life Park in Arlington. Activities will include a Rangers game with the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium, a beach trip with yoga classes, and visits to many of the area tourist destinations. The group from Pinkston will be joined by students from the Los Angeles- based just keep livin programs.
In May 2011 the Rangers Foundation announced a partnership with Matthew McConaughey and his just keep livin foundation to create an after-school program centered on nutrition, exercise and wellness for local students. In the first four years of the Texas Rangers just keep livin program, nearly 90% of the student participants have shown marked improvements in their academic performance and attendance. The students have successfully completed half-marathons and numerous 5ks throughout the community.
The partnership between the Rangers and Cholula includes the sponsorship of the Cholula Porch, which encompasses the 2,357 All You Can Eat Seat tickets in what was formally known as the Upper Home Run Porch as well as the fully renovated club space located behind that seating area at Globe Life Park in Arlington. The club space services the All You Can Seats during all home games and hosts non-game events year-round. Cholula also receives identification around Globe Life Park through home plate and LED signage.
