Red Sox Foundation launches "IMPACT" awards to support New England charities

Foundation to Grant $75,000 to New England Non-profits Based on Fan Votes;
Annual Red Sox Foundation Community Report Released Today

The Red Sox Foundation today launched the "IMPACT" Awards (Inspiring More Philanthropy Across Charities Together), which provides Red Sox fans in the five New England states outside of Massachusetts with the opportunity to vote for their favorite local non-profits to decide which organizations will be awarded grants.

The foundation will donate a total of $75,000. Voting will help determine a first, second, and third place winner in each of the five states. First place winners will receive a $10,000 award and check presentation during a pregame ceremony at Fenway Park, tickets to a game, recognition on the team and foundation websites, and air time to promote their charity during a game in the NESN broadcast booth.

Charities with the second- and third-most votes will receive grants of $3,000 and $2,000 respectively, along with additional benefits. To be eligible, charities must be 501(c)(3) non-profits in good standing whose work is consistent with the Red Sox Foundation's mission of serving the health, education, recreation, and social service needs of children, families and veterans in need across New England.

"Over the past few years, we have grown the foundation's reach throughout New England through service scholarships and grants," said Red Sox Foundation Board member Linda Pizzuti Henry. "Giving fans an opportunity to weigh in on their favorite charities in their home state is one that can engage local communities and raise awareness for some very worthy causes."

IMPACT Award voting for all states starts today, Thursday, April 16, on redsox.com/impact. Voting deadlines for each state are as follows:

To date, the Red Sox Foundation has donated over $75 million to charities across New England and to fund the operations of its own cornerstone programs. The annual Red Sox Foundation Community Report, released today, illustrates the foundation's programs and beneficiaries. The report is available online on redsoxfoundation.org.

In addition to the IMPACT Awards, the Red Sox Foundation has also created an easy way for fans attending a game at Fenway Park to make donations. In partnership with Red Sox concessionaire Aramark, fans purchasing refreshments at any Fenway Park concession stands can now add 50 cents to their order to benefit the foundation and the thousands of charities and programs it supports each year. The "It Makes Sense to Give 50 Cents" campaign will be in effect throughout the baseball season.

The foundation is continuing its 50/50 raffle during each Red Sox home game in 2015. Fans make a donation for a chance to win half of the collection from that game. This year's 50/50 raffle is supported by Draft Kings.

Upcoming Red Sox Foundation events include the 2nd Annual Red Sox Foundation Golf Tournament Hosted by Tim Wakefield on July 13, and the annual Picnic in the Park event on August 2, when fans have an opportunity to picnic on the field at Fenway Park and get autographs from current players.

The golf tournament benefits the Red Sox Foundation and Franciscan Hospital for Children in Brighton, MA, and the Picnic in the Park event benefits the foundation's Red Sox Scholars and RBI Programs.
