Bogaerts day to day with sore right knee

BOSTON -- The MRI taken on the right knee of Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts was "clean" according to manager John Farrell. In fact, Bogaerts could play in some capacity on Wednesday against the Nationals.

"He's day to day," said Farrell. "Not ruling out his availability for tomorrow."

Bogaerts played in Boston's home opener on Monday, but he felt sore when he woke up on Tuesday.

The injury snuck up on Bogaerts.

"He was rounding third base, held up and there was a little bit of a slip," Farrell said. "He continued on in the game with no issue, no complaint, no word of anything. Even after the game he didn't feel anything. He came in today with increased symptoms."

Bogaerts has been red hot to start the season, hitting .433.
