Rucinski earns first MLB start against Rangers

ANAHEIM -- Right-hander Drew Rucinski relieved Jered Weaver in the fifth inning and worked two scoreless innings in the Angels' 6-4 loss to the Royals on Saturday night. As expected, Rucinski was told afterward that he will make his first Major League start on Tuesday in Texas -- the first time the Angels require a fifth starter.

"I was definitely excited to get my first outing of the year," said Rucinski, who had last pitched on March 31 in a Cactus League contest. "It had been awhile since I'd seen hitters in a game."

Rucinski said he wasn't informed of the Tuesday start until after his relief appearance, which he said was, in essence, his pre-start bullpen.

"I got to face some hitters, so I won't be going in cold [on Tuesday] after a couple of weeks," he said.
