Hardy swings bat, moving closer to rehab stint

BALTIMORE -- Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy took some swings with a fungo bat Thursday and planned on taking more swings, perhaps with a regular bat, Friday as he continues to work toward a rehab assignment next week.

Hardy has been sidelined since the end of spring with a left shoulder strain.

David Lough (hamstring) was slated to play nine innings in an intrasquad game Friday and he could either be activated off the disabled list or start a rehab assignment. Manager Buck Showalter said the team hadn't decided.
