Showalter to take leave of absence for family matter

BALTIMORE -- Orioles manager Buck Showalter will take a leave of absence around April 25 to attend the memorial service for his father-in-law, who passed away Thursday.

Showalter said Friday he would fly to Nashville, Tenn., for the service. The O's are at home that weekend for a three-game series against the Red Sox.

Showalter missed a pair of games last season and bench coach John Russell served as manager for both.
