Rangers claim outfielder Hassan off waivers

OAKLAND -- The Alex Hassan carousel keeps on spinning.

The Texas Rangers claimed the 27-year-old outfielder off waivers from the Oakland Athletics on Thursday and sent him to Triple-A Round Rock, while placing Matt Harrison (spinal surgery recovery) on the 60-day disabled list. It marks the fourth time Hassan has been claimed off waivers since November.

The A's designated Hassan for assignment on Wednesday after signing veteran Cody Ross to a one-year contract. Hassan made three appearances for the Boston Red Sox in 2014, before being claimed by the A's, Baltimore Orioles, A's again, and now the Rangers.

Hassan, a right-handed hitter, batted .287/.378/.426 with eight homers and 55 RBIs last year in 114 Triple-A games with the Boston organization. The Rangers currently have five outfielders on their active roster -- Shin-Soo Choo, Leonys Martin, Ryan Rua, Jake Smolinski and Rule 5 draftee Delino DeShields.
