Cardinals set 2015 Opening Day roster

Five first-time Cardinals on roster, two players on 15-day D.L.

The St. Louis Cardinals have announced their 25-man Opening Day roster as they prepare to open their 124th season of play in the National League tonight at 7:14 p.m. CDT in a nationally televised game on ESPN2 when they meet the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. Adam Wainwright has been tabbed by Manager Mike Matheny as the Cardinals Opening night starter.

St. Louis has a total of five first-time Cardinals on their Opening Day roster including outfielder Jason Heyward, infielder Mark Reynolds and pitchers Matt Belisle, Carlos Villanueva and Jordan Walden. Pitcher Jaime Garcia (left shoulder) and outfielder Tommy Pham (strained left quadriceps) begin the year on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 27.

The Cardinals 25-man Opening Day roster for 2015 is as follows:

PITCHERS (12): Matt Belisle-RHP, Randy Choate-LHP, John Lackey-RHP, Lance Lynn-RHP, Seth Maness-RHP, Carlos Martinez-RHP, Trevor Rosenthal-RHP, Kevin Siegrist-LHP, Carlos Villanueva-RHP, Michael Wacha-RHP, Adam Wainwright-RHP and Jordan Walden-RHP;

CATCHERS (2): Tony Cruz, Yadier Molina;

INFIELDERS (6): Matt Adams, Matt Carpenter, Pete Kozma, Jhonny Peralta, Mark Reynolds and Kolten Wong;

OUTFIELDERS (5): Peter Bourjos, Randal Grichuk, Jason Heyward, Matt Holliday and Jon Jay;

DISABLED LIST (2): Jaime Garcia and Tommy Pham.
