KANSAS CITY -- Right-hander Louis Coleman, who had been battling for one of the final spots in the Royals' bullpen, has cleared waivers and been assigned to Triple-A Omaha.
Coleman, 28, had a respectable spring, posting a 3.55 ERA in nine games. He was competing with right-hander Ryan Madson and left-hander Brian Flynn for a bullpen role.
Coleman, in his seventh season with the Royals, is out of options.
"He has been OK," manager Ned Yost said on Wednesday. "He came in with a lot of competition. He's held his own."
