GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- The Indians announced their planned Opening Day roster on Thursday morning, handing reliever Austin Adams the final available job in the bullpen.
General manager Chris Antonetti noted that first baseman Jesus Aguilar has been optioned to Triple-A Columbus and infielder Michael Martinez will be reassigned to Minor League camp after staying with the big league club for the next few days. Martinez, who is in the fold as a non-roster invitee, is also ticketed for Columbus.
"Austin Adams will be the eighth reliever, as we sit here today," Antonetti said. "There's a few things we're still working through potentially -- trades, waivers, things like that -- but as of right now, that's the way the team looks."
The Indians also announced that utility man Zach Walters (strained oblique) will join right-hander Gavin Floyd (fractured elbow) and outfielder Nick Swisher (surgery on both knees in August) on the disabled list to begin this season. When Floyd is placed on the 60-day DL, the Indians will be able to add non-roster reliever Anthony Swarzak to the 40-man and active roster.
Those moves have brought Cleveland's 25-man roster for Opening Day into focus:
Rotation: Corey Kluber, Carlos Carrasco, Trevor Bauer, Zach McAllister, TJ House.
Bullpen: Cody Allen (closer), Bryan Shaw, Scott Atchison, Marc Rzepczynski, Nick Hagadone, Kyle Crockett, Swarzak and Adams.
Infielders: Carlos Santana, Jason Kipnis, Jose Ramirez, Lonnie Chisenhall, Mike Aviles.
Outfielders: Michael Brantley, Michael Bourn, Brandon Moss, David Murphy, Ryan Raburn.
Catchers: Yan Gomes, Roberto Perez.
