FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Pablo Sandoval and Brock Holt will serve as Jimmy Fund co-captains for 2015, it was announced Wednesday.
The Red Sox have had a unique relationship with the cancer-fighting Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute that has lasted over six decades.
Entering his first season with the Red Sox, Sandoval looks forward to helping the cause.
"I am proud to support the critical work in cancer care and research at Dana-Farber, and honored to be part of this long-standing partnership between the Jimmy Fund and the Red Sox," Sandoval said in a statement.
Holt, entering his third season with the Red Sox, has been a fixture in the community.
"Supporting the Jimmy Fund is important to all of us at the Red Sox. I was honored to meet many brave patients at Dana-Farber over the past year, and look forward to doing more for the organization this year as a Jimmy Fund co-captain," said Holt.
As they step into the Jimmy Fund co-captain roles, Holt and Sandoval will support Rally for the Jimmy Fund, a fundraising initiative that allows Red Sox fans to "rally" in their workplaces and schools leading up to the home opener.
Rally for the Jimmy Fund encourages co-workers, classmates and friends to form rally teams in which each member contributes $5 or more to the Jimmy Fund. In exchange, they wear Boston Red Sox gear to work or school on Monday, April 13, when the Sox take on the Washington Nationals at Fenway Park in the home opener.
The top fundraising workplace and school (K-12, college, or university) will win a visit from Holt, Sandoval or another Boston Red Sox player this spring. In addition, all teams that raise $5,000 or more (workplace or school) will be entered to win a visit from a player.
