Orioles prospect Davies to start vs. Rays

SARASOTA, Fla. -- Orioles pitching prospect Zach Davies will get the start Monday against the Tampa Bay Rays, with lefty Wei-Yin Chen pitching in a Minor League game.

The right-handed Davies is ranked as Baltimore's No. 4 prospect by MLB.com. Just 22, Davies went 10-7 with a 3.35 ERA in 21 games (20 starts) for Double-A Bowie last season. A 26th-round pick in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, Davies twice was named Eastern League Player of the Week last season.

He joins pitching prospect Tyler Wilson, who started Saturday against the Yankees, as the next wave of O's arms the organization wants to take a closer look at.

Chen is expected to pitch one of the first three games of the season against the Rays, which is why the O's would prefer to not have him face them so close to Opening Day.
