Lough day to day, but back improving

SARASOTA, Fla. -- Outfielder David Lough, who was scratched from Tuesday's lineup, said his back is slowly improving and he's considered day to day right now.

"I'm not concerned," Lough said Wednesday morning of the injury. "It's a lot better today than it was yesterday so it's a good sign, knowing it's already healing."

Lough suffered the injury Tuesday morning in the batting cages while picking up baseballs.

"I picked up a ball and my low back started spasming on me, and I could barely walk yesterday," he said. "I talked to the trainers. They kind of shut me down yesterday and I feel a lot better today. Hopefully, I'll be back [Thursday], maybe a couple days -- whenever they feel like it's best for me to get back on the field."

Lough said he has no history of back issues. He is 5-for-27 in 13 Grapefruit League games.
