Colorado Rockies release pitcher Jhoulys Chacin

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have granted right-handed pitcher Jhoulys Chacin his unconditional release.

The 27-year-old Chacin was 38-48 with a 3.78 ERA (672.0 IP , 282 ER) in 124 games (109 starts) over parts of six seasons with the Rockies.  He walked 280 and struck out 514. 

This spring, Chacin has no decisions with a 6.52 ERA (9.2 IP, 7 ER), four walks and five strikeouts over four appearances (two starts).

Colorado signed the Venezuela native as a non-drafted free agent on Sept. 27, 2004. He made his Major League debut in 2009.

In 2014, Chacin was 1-7 with a 5.40 ERA (63. 1 IP, 38 ER), 28 walks and 42 strikeouts in 11 starts.
