MESA, Ariz. -- Joe Maddon's Lafayette team couldn't pull an upset over top seed Villanova, which meant the Cubs manager had to wear a Wildcats hoodie sweatshirt, courtesy of outfielder Matt Szczur.
"I had confidence in the team," Szczur said of Villanova, which crushed Lafayette, 93-52, in the first round of the NCAA men's basketball tournament on Thursday. "I know they had a heck of a season and I feel they have nobody standing in their way. I was very confident."
Maddon posed in his new sweatshirt on Friday and Szczur posted a photo on Twitter with the message: "BIG thanks to the skipper @CubsJoeMadd for being such a great sport! #nova".
Szczur played baseball and football at Villanova before being drafted by the Cubs in the fifth round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft.
