Perkins ready to make Grapefruit League debut

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Twins closer Glen Perkins felt fine after pitching in a Minor League game on Thursday, and he is scheduled to make his Grapefruit League debut on Saturday against the Orioles at Hammond Stadium.

Perkins, who was out with a mild right oblique strain sustained in early March, tossed a scoreless inning with a strikeout and two flyouts against Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday. It was the first appearance for Perkins since pitching against the University of Minnesota on March 4.

"Everything went well," Twins general manager Terry Ryan said. "I didn't hear anything from anybody today other than that he felt good."

Provided he doesn't suffer any setbacks, Perkins -- an All-Star in each of the last two seasons -- is expected to be ready for the start of the season.
