SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Joe Maddon will be wearing a Villanova sweatshirt on Friday.
Maddon made a friendly wager that his Lafayette team would beat Matt Szczur's Villanova squad in the first round of the NCAA men's basketball tournament. Villanova, the No. 1 seed in the East Region, crushed Lafayette, 93-52.
Szczur was so confident the Wildcats would win, the Cubs outfielder left a Villanova sweatshirt and basketball shirt on Maddon's chair in his office.
After the game, Szczur posted on Twitter: "Big WIN for the cats tonight! Can't wait to see the skipper @CubsJoeMadd in his #NOVA hoodie!"
And Maddon responded: "congrats ... do I get to pick the bottle of wine?"
The loser of the wager had to wear a sweatshirt of the winning team. Szczur added another element: If the Wildcats won and beat the point spread, Maddon would owe the outfielder a bottle of wine. They beat the spread.
