Rays announce reassignment, option moves

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- The Rays announced a roster cut following Thursday afternoon's game against the Twins.

Infielder Vince Belnome was assigned to Minor League camp while outfielder Mikie Mahtook and left-hander Enny Romero were optioned.

"I spoke to all three of them, they're good today," Rays manager Kevin Cash said. "We appreciated the way Belnome and Mahtook really worked, came in ready to go. Both of them through the drills and stuff. And Enny did a good job. He's going to impact us at some point this season for sure."

The Romero move whittled the list of names competing for three vacant spots in the rotation. The remaining pitchers include Mike Montgomery, Matt Andriese, Nathan Karns, Burch Smith and Everett Teaford.
